then why does Apple keep terminal which is nothing more than Apple version of command prompt.
I was referring to the poster's comment about a hypothetical MS transition to Unix, which won't happen any time soon for a lot of reasons.
The command line is quite useful, actually. There are some very handy Terminal commands out there.
Here's a fun one, which might already be familiar:
Type this into the Terminal window and hit return:
telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl
It's been a while, I'm not sure if they actually finished it.

You are really disenchanted by this thread arent you?
But at the end of the day its your fault. You are the leader you must take responsibility.
I sure am, just a broken, shadow of my former self.
As the highest-posting 68040 I feel distraught at my ineptitude as leader. but in about 13 more posts I'll be the most junior 601 and then I'll pass the buck up the line. :D

And people kept telling me that OSX and iOS weren't going to merge in any meaningful manner for years ahead, if ever. Yeah right. I'd bet the one after this has them nearly fully merged and I mean towards iOS for the most part. OSX will be dumbed down to the lowest common brain cell and you won't be able to get free/open software anymore. It'll have to come through the App Store or not at all. Wait and see. That is the point I'll be moving on.
Come on, really?

They annoyed me this time.. I had 8 songs in my basket and i'm unable to purchase them - I can understand with an online store that delays something for at least 24 hours... but for an instant content delivery system it's rather annoying as a customer.

I much preferred the older builds.
iOS scrollbar's and the reversed scrolling was one of my favourite little things about Lion.
Slider was much better too than boring buttons.

Best Buy does this all the time. I purchased a Samsung TV off their Web site for in-store sameday pickup last year, and took my receipt to my local store. They wouldn't give me the TV I already purchased because they were holding all of that model until Sunday because of their Sunday ad flyer. They had at least 10 of that model in stock on their store shelves.
They told me I could come back Sunday to pick it up. Naturally, I refused (this was like Tuesday), called Best Buy Online and had them refund my purchase. Then, purchased from Amazon.
I'll never purchase anything major from them again.

Here is why gestures are great and will win out over mouse and keyboard use for almost all uses: they are a direct action and not an indirect action.
Believe what you will. I have a MBP with gestures and I find some useful and some annoying. I can do fine artwork with a mouse and Photoshop (stylus is even more useful), but I can't do it with a piddly trackpad. I would not want to play 3D shooter games with a trackpad either. In other words, trackpads have their uses and are getting better for some tasks with gestures, but they're not the answer to life, the universe and everything either. Every task has its ideal tool. You don't throw out hand tools because air tools are available. They're unsuited for many tasks (particularly delicate ones).

The way I see it... whats the point in having loads of cool achievements, if your kill/death ratio / scores SUCK.
If you stats look bad... it doesnt matter what achievements you get.. anyone can get achievements....
So if anyone plays and tries to get achievements but plays the game in a way that makes them appear stupid (like your example) let them get on with it.

Why are Apple on a witch hunt?
Apple should concentrate on fixing their problem instead of finger pointing and deflecting the issue onto other companies. We already know the problem isn't as severe on other devices as the iPhone 4.
We do? You've tested them all?

That's impressive. You've shown you don't understand business, software engineering, or computer engineering, all in one paragraph.
Nice!

You New York is New York, part of the USA.That's why I said local government... you have that in the US, too, you know...
Saying that you are small, rich and well educated... And then you even say, you are technologically advanced?
Have you been to Singapore, Kuwait, Japan? I can name a few more places, but let's keep the list short. No I haven't been to any of those places. But what has that to do with anything...?
Again, this is not a contest, and I didn't even say we were the most technological advanced population in the world, nor the richest.
Just that we as population in general are rich and technologically advanced. Or don't you agree with that?

major kernel version
1,2: 1.0 and 2.0
3: 3.0, WfW3.11, NT 3.51
4: 95, 98, NT4
5: 2000, XP
6: Vista
7: Windows 7 (but really 6.1)
So the answer is, "marketing"
That's not the reason if I remember. They started count at 3 as 1 & 2 were "not real Windows". It was 3, 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista, 7; or something like that. It is kernel 6.1 because they didn't want the incompatibility problems of jumping a large kernel version (ie XP 5.1 to Vista 6.0). But yes, it mostly is marketing.

I'm still seeing only one discount applied online.
I was not able to get an EDU discount and sale discount.
BUT, if you are a gvt worker you can get both discounts.
I priced out a new 80GB ipod w/2 Evo3 skins, and the applecare protection plan and it was $30 cheaper with the GVT discount ... but no luck with EDU
